At the age of 30, Tara Dakides has already lived a full lifetime. She is known for her amazing accomplishments as a professional snowboarder and her incredible no-fear determination. Against The Grain reveals many life-changing moments that have happened beneath the surface, which Tara has never shared with the public. To start, the film walks you through Taras early years. Her parents painful divorce changed her life forever, creating a whirlwind of obstacles. At the age of 11 she was sent to a psychologist who immediately prescribed her Prozac. This created an unnecessary drug addiction that, at the age of 12 led her to a mental hospital where she would spend the next 3 months of her life. Tara would wake up to find herself strapped down to a bed for an 18-hour period and treated as if she were in an insane asylum. She tried to get by for a couple of weeks, but felt as if the treatments were literally making her crazy and decided to escape the hospital. Tara ran to a friends house but was found a week later by the police, arrested, and brought back to the hospital. After she returned, she was not allowed outside for a month. It was like a prison and Tara learned to just do her time. She was released one month later to live with her mother. Taras troubled youth created the strong adult the world sees today. Her progression as a snowboarder has led to a revolution for female riders. Her story will inspire and captivate all audiences. This is not a snowboard film. This is a film on the life story of Tara Dakides.
